Bristol Ferry Lighthouse Rhode Island Nestled between coves, bays and inlets along Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island’s East Bay region is one of the most picturesque in the state. Consisting of quaint towns and villages, steeped in British and colonial history. The towns of Barrington, Bristol, East Providence and Warren make up this area. It is home to America’s oldest annual parade: Bristol’s Fourth of July Parade. It has been marching since 1785!

East Bay also has many museums which chronicle early American farm life, America’s cup yachts and Native American Culture.
While staying at any one of the charming historic Colonial Inns and Bed and Breakfasts, be sure to admire the many miles of preserved old stone fences. They help to keep the rustic ambiance alive. Looking to get some exercise and an eyeful of beautiful scenery? Take the fourteen mile trek on the East Bay Bike Path. From the novice to the pro, this path offers something for everyone whether you’re cycling, walking, running or rollerblading.

Other attractions include the Blithewold Mansion and Gardens which is a spectacular waterfront estate with forty five rooms and some of the most breathtaking gardens, all resting on thirty three beautifull acres! There is also Linden Place which is a Federal period mansion, rumor has it, it’s got a very interesting past – lots of material for the local gossip column of the time! There are three museums: Coggeshall Farm Museum, Herreshoff Marine Museum and the Haffenreffer Museum.

Yet another historic treasure unique to Rhode Island is the Cresent Park Carousel. It’s ornately hand-carved horses are some of the finest preserved artifacts in the country.
